C'mon C'mon Reviews

C'mon and give us more
Nice. Infact it's very nice. Unlike the boring shambles that was "The Globe Session", "C'Mon C'Mon" is a very catchy and likeable album filled with a mixed range of songs (yes this is the same Sheryl Crow whose last 3 albums all sounded like carbon copies!)
The album kicks off with "Steve McQueen", a full on rock track with stupid but brilliant lyrics (yes that does make sense).
"Soak Up The Sun" makes a refreshing change to Sheryl's usual style of music- for once she's looking on the positive side of life.
There are a lot of big stars helping Crow on "C'mon C'Mon", Lenny Kravitz, Stevie Nicks and Emmylou Harris being just some of them.
After going through an emotional fasinating journey into Sheryl's musical world (this time including a piano), we are greeted at the end with the most beautiful song I've ever heard by a rock star.
"The Weather Channel" is a quiet and clever little number which is bound to please all. I know some critics found the album quite disappointing, but they all loved this track.
I can safely say that Sheryl Crow's first pop influenced album has been a success through my eyes.

C'mom C'mom...
When I first listened to this album, I wanted to write about it here, but I felt I wasn't ready. That's because you have to listen to this CD several times before you get used to it. There's nothing wrong about this process and the more you listen "C'mom C'mom", the more you'll enjoy it.

"Soak up the sun" is pop, and old fans will not recognize sheryl. It's a sunny, happy and clueless song, just for the fun of doing it. The chorus catches you and I'm sure everyone is singing "I'm gonna soak up the sun/I'm gonna tell everyone to lighten up". "You're an original" is a great track, with the participation of lenny kravitz. "Safe and sound" is a very powerful ballad and one of my favorites. The vocals are great and the lyrics are beautiful. It seems like an 007 theme song, doesn't it? "C'mom C'mom" is a folk song, and I love the chorus. "It's so easy" is a good track and I also like the lyrics and the duet. "Lucky kid" is pure fun. It's like sheryl crow meets punk. The chorus reminds me of garbage songs "you're wasted...". "Diamond Road" is also good and it would be perfect for a soundtrack. It seems like a love tale and has a positive message. "It's only love" is interesting but I still can't notice gwyneth paltrow guest vocals. Why sheryl did not give her a bigger part on the song? Gwyneth did a good job on "Duets" soundtrack and really deserved some recognition."Abilene" is the typical song sheryl likes to perform. It's rock with good lyrics. "Weather channel" is another one of my favorites. Sheryl and a guitar, that's all you need to have a great track. In my country, the CD comes with a bonus track called "missing". It's as good as the others, and I do not know why it was left off US version.

I highly recommend this CD.

Is it just me?
This is easily my least favorite Sheryl Crow album. "Tuesday Night Music Club" featured a slew of catchy hits that, though sang imperfectly, had a charm and a lot of emotion. "Sheryl Crow" and "The Globe Sessions" followed, and we learned that Sheryl has quite an impressive vocal range, and isn't afraid to play around with different styles of music. Her lyrical ability became more apparent in the process as well. While these second two albums were risky in all the right ways "C'mon C'mon" is predictable and boring. Nearly all the songs have a radio-friendly southern rock sheen, and there are FAR too many guest vocalists (Gwyneth? why?). I didn't want a Sheryl and Friends album. This is not to say that the album has nothing to offer. The innocuous "Steve McQueen" is catchy and decent. "Safe and Sound" sounds like Sheryl has channeled Tori Amos for a moment in time. "Diamond Road" sounds like something from the Beatle's "Sgt. Pepper" days (can't go wrong there). For someone new to Sheryl's work, I suggest purchasing any other of her albums...for those that just want to her the same formula about 10 times, this might work for you.

worst sheryl crow CD of all
This is the most commercial and hastily produced sheryl crow album I`ve heard. The cheesy title says it all,C`mon C`mon. The fact Sheryl has been given 9 grammys is a sad commentary to the declining musical taste of the american public.

She keeps getting BETTER!
Sheryl Crow is an artist that I've liked since her first album. I keep expecting her to lose her groove like some other new female artists (Jewel...0304), but she keeps getting better!

When I bought this album I was on a cross-country road trip and NEEDED some new music. I fully expected to be disappointed just because I thought Sheryl would eventually get 'stale'. Amazingly, some 2.5 years later this CD still stands up to any other! She's still got her edge!
Sheryl Crow's first studio album in four years shows a woman if not on the verge of a nervous breakdown, then one who has gone a little off the rails and is in the process of pulling herself back on track again. For her past three studio albums, Crow has been known as the quintessential party girl who liked a beer buzz in the morning, but C'mon, C'mon shows her to be much more than that. Breakup, illness, and loss have tempered her good-time persona, and like other life-altering events, both her character and lyrics are stronger for it. This latest offering might not break any new musical ground--again relying on her retooling of '70s country rock--but she displays an honesty and naked vulnerability not witnessed in her earlier work, honing her pain to a fine, lyrical edge. The brooding "Weather Channel" shows a rawboned Crow unafraid to display her emotional bruising, but without losing any of her sly wit: "Just a pill to make me happy / I know it may not fix the hinges, but at least the door has stopped its creaking." Besides songs reflecting her newfound poignancy are a couple of swaggering rockers that recall middle-period Stones, including "You're an Original," featuring Lenny Kravitz, the whimsical and insouciant "Steve McQueen," which finds Crow boasting "I ain't taking shit off of no one," and the deceptively frothy "Soak Up the Sun," which features the long missing-in-action Liz Phair on background vocals. In addition to resurrecting Phair, Crow also has compiled a paparazzo's dream, soliciting the vocal talents of pals Stevie Nicks, Natalie Maines , Emmylou Harris, Don Henley, and inexplicably, the actress Gwyneth Paltrow. --Jaan Uhelszki
