BEST MEGADETH CD EVER
Countdown to Extinction was released 8 years ago and still sounds fresh even buy today's standards. By far, this is the best effort by Dave Mustaine and company. This CD was the first release in which Megadeth toned their sound down a little bit....(only slightly though), and the first release that hit the big time. There are so many great catchy songs on this CD that you will end up singing along with: Symphony of Destruction, This Was My Life, and Countdown to Extinction to name a few. Musically, the guitars of Mustaine and Freidman are incredible. The drum work of Nick Menza is fantastic as is the bass guitar of Danny Ellefson. This is one CD that I never get tired of listening to. Its heavy guitars, crashing drums and excellent vocals combined with well composed songs makes this one Hard Rock / Heavy Metal release that should be in everyone's collection. It is upbeat, and it will get your adrenaline pumping.
This is an excellent CD! Well worth the money spent!
New kind of masterpiece
Megadeth left thrash behind before making this album, which was a very daring move. It payed out though. Gone are the fast tempos and shreding (except for a some solos in this album).
The songs are all great eventhough "Countdown...", "Skin..." and the last song are stand outs. All songs are strong eventhough the digital recording killed all the pounding replacing it with clean very listenable riffs and beats.
Songs such as "symphony for destruction" and "Sweating bullets" had that crazy stop sing and then play. Kicks ass!
Other songs such as "Skin Of My Teeth" and the final track are awesome songs. Heavy yet clear, strong, yet melodic.
A classic Megadeth album indeed, and worth every dollar!
Highlights: Title track
Lowlights: Foreclosure of a dream, sorry, the song is good, but definitely the least close to be the best of the album.
Great album to start your Megadeth collection with
Megadeth's Fifth Album
On this outing you will see that Megadeth made thier songs a bit more commercialized and acessible. After listening to this album uncountable times I can honestly tell you that it doesn't even make a difference. This is Megadeth at the top of thier game musically and lyrically. All Megadeth fans should have this in thier collection, it is essential. Highlights Include; Symphony of Destruction, Sweating Bullets and Ashes In Your Mouth
Megadeth kicks ass!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
this is one of the best megadeth cds ever! It was my second megadeth cd after "hidden treasures" also an excellent cd, my favorite song on this cd is "sweating bullits". It's all good on this cd! check it out, you wont regret it!!!!!!
This Is The Countown To Exinction
This is another favorite Megadeth record of mine. I bought this on cassett along with So Far, So Good...So What! back in the summer of 1992 and every now and than, I would pop it in my sterio. It's still has the same appeal. With this album, things are a little bit different. The heaviness, brutally, intensity and assualt is still here but it's more in the direction of The Back Album by Metallica. There are a lot of catchy, groovy, slow and mid-paced songs, plenty of melody, solos and magic moments. Some fans of the older Megadeth stuff may not like this album or they might just give up on Medegeth after this one but I cetainly find nothing wrong with it. I love poping it in and it always keeps me entertained. Some of my favorite songs here are Skin O' My Teeth, Symphony Of Destruction, Forclosure Of A Dream, Sweating Bullets, This Was My Life, High Speed Dirt and Psychotron. But this or become extinct.
Megadeth is one of the few metal bands to have successfully handled the transition to the '90s, and Countdown to Extinction is proof positive; although considerably more streamlined and commercially oriented than their previous efforts, it's still a fine album, and arguably one of their best. Lead singer and guitarist Dave Mustaine's lyric-writing has improved, and the results can be heard on "Countdown to Extinction," "Symphony of Destruction," "Architecture of Aggression" (it's a rare songwriter who can make a line like that fit in a chorus), and "Foreclosure of a Dream". This is arena metal at its best; Countdown to Extinction (a reference not to genocide, as one might assume, but to endangered species) manages the difficult trick of being commercially appealing and musically sound at the same time. -- Genevieve Williams
