Palm Trees And Power Lines Reviews

palm tress and power lines
ok this is hard as im not the kinda person to do "reviews" but as a sugarcult fan i supose i have to.
so overall the album is great and even tho i love the start static album i cant help but think this is the one album that is going to be playing in radio stations and CD players all over the world. Its crazly fun, energetic and very seirous all in one which i think is a bonus.
With songs such as Back to California and counting stars show that the guys are all grown up and learning the hard things in life such as breaking up relationships and stuff...this breaks the album down and brings all the record together.
Word you say is...well i think one of the best songs on the album with the different sounds in the lead singers voice Tim Paganotta. He sounds different in this album but hey he must be doing something right as evryone seem to love it.
with new drummer kenny the band has now formed into a bigger and better sound and is ringing in ears all over the place.
Shes the blade, crying, worst december, over, champagne and the hit single Memory are something thats always going to get you going whether you at home on your own or in the street listening to it on your broken down Cd walkman.
Whether your a massive fan of Sugarcult or just a music lover palm trees and power lines should be listened to and hey its only a couple of pounds or dollers wherever your from so dont be a cheapo and BUY IT.

no, not purist 'punk' but who cares?
Okay, if you're a hardcore, "don't give me this Simple Plan crap," punk-enthusiast, this may not be the album for you. In fact you'd probably enjoy a good sneer at the band's expense and then drop the whole issue. However, if you're simply looking for an album where the upbeat majority rules, Palm Trees & Power Lines is your proverbial oyster.

For me, this band sold itself a couple of years ago with their single "Pretty Girl (The Way)". I really dug Tim Pagnotta's voice, not to mention the lyrics. Only I didn't know it was them and, at the time, wasn't looking for a new band. So when I heard "Memory" for the first time a week or so ago, I kind of had a flashback. A, "Hey, Sugarcult, I remember them," kinda deal. Next day I was down ten bucks and up one cd, rocking out in my bedroom.
Dispensing with the story mishmash, I really like this cd. Its not punk, but then, you weren't really looking for that, were you? Of the whole album, "Memory", "What You Say" and "Back to California" would have to be my top three. Not to say the rest isn't awesome and bunches of fun, though. Because it is. And if you're a happy person like me, thats a good thing.

Another album of unapologetic pop punk songs from this Santa Barbara outfit who have smartly filled in the void that Green Day left when they decided to dabble into rock's early canon and eschew self-loathing for more mature introspection. Sugarcult has none of those pretensions; instead their rock anthems are rather unadulterated and athletic--even when they're trying to sonically extricate themselves from complicated and claustrophobic romantic entanglements. With lyrics more clever than smart, Sugarcult makes romantic fatalism oddly entertaining as they take listeners through a wistful post mortem of a love affair gone awry. --Jaan Uhelszki
The energy and dedication Sugarcult brought to Start Static created a massive fan base for the rock quartet around the world, selling nearly half a million copies -- 300,000 units in the United States alone. On their new, Gavin MacKillop produced album, Palm Trees and Power Lines the plaintive edge that lurked below the surface of singer/guitarist Tim Pagnotta's songs is now front and center. The new material has an emotional intensity that matches the band's electrifying musical jolt. Sugarcult is quintessentially Californian, and the new album's 12 songs play out against the backdrop of California's beauty and ugliness, its romance and reality; documenting a physical and psychological journey that begins and ends at the edge of the Pacific.

On the undeniably catchy rocker "Memory," the band effortlessly dives into one of the themes that have made them such an important band to their fans - love hanging by a thread. The similarly wrenching songs, "Crying" and "Over", search for a glimmer of affirmation amid the debris of shattered romantic dreams.

"Back to California,"encapsulates the album's dramatic payload in a vivid narrative ("Drive all night to hold you tight / Back to California / We couldn't win in the end") that recalls the climax of an earlier California saga of highways and hope, The Graduate.

"These songs are fresh documents of our lives over the last two years," says Marko. "We're more confident as musicians, we're more confident in our ideas - because, when you set out to do something against all odds and it's working, that just strengthens your resolve. It gives you the confidence to take more chances, keep doing the things you've been doing without apologies and just go for it."
