Peace & Love, Inc. Reviews

Information Society's 3rd CD
"Peace and Love, Inc.", Information Society's third CD, opens with the same-named single, an upbeat, pop/dance tune. The majority of songs on here are like this: airy and synth-heavy, except for filler tracks like #3: "To the City" (which I liked) and #12: "300bps N, 8, 1 (Terminal Mode or ASCII Download)" (which just gave me a headache; it's three minutes of high-pitched computer screaming). I wasn't too terribly impressed with this CD, but Information Society and/or '90s techno fans should like it. Lyrics are included.

Where would I be without IBM?
Of the three "full" Information Society albums (Information Society, Hack and Peace & Love Inc. -- prior to Paul Robb quitting and selling the name to co-founder Kurt Harland) this is the most mature of the three, but also the least danceable. The cool thing is that the lyrics did get a bit more tounge-in-cheek and even downright insightful at times. My favorite track off this album is the appropriately named "Where would I be without IBM" (and actually, I fell in love with the song before I took my current job). It's an interesting look at the way that technical people tend to cocoon themselves with technology to avoid dealing with stressful situations -- and it rocks!

Wakes you up!
I had Information Society constantly in my cassette player when I was in college ("I want to know - what you're thinking") but I never heard any of the songs off of this album. I bought it purely by impulse because I liked one of their other albums. This is definately 80's club music, with the hard pulsing beat and electric sound effects. I liked most of the songs, especially the title track - I loved the intro. A really catchy intro is important to an 80's music lover, and all of the songs pretty much stay in the same beat. Enjoyable!

Industiral feel
This is a good cd, more industiral, yet perhaps a bit too refined. It doesn't have quite the punch that Hack does, but still has plenty of good tracks. The final track, "Where The I Divides", is an appropriate final song for their final cd before the band "divided" and went their own ways.
